Cyclick Samples - Distorted Drums [WAV | NKI] -Sin

Fuzzy, fizzy, dirty, crunchy...distortion comes in many forms. For this collection of drum-centric samples the
distortion (of the harmonic variety) has taken eight forms, seven of which are analogue (the eighth does
occur outside the box, but via a digital FX unit). There are kick, snare and tom hits processed through the
eight distortion paths (see below for the signal path set ups), which have been programmed into Kontakt
patches, and a set of beat loops across seven tempos (85, 95, 110, 120, 125, 130 & 170bpm).

All AD/DA was via the Antelope Audio Orion 32, with pedals fed via the Little Labs Redeye reamp tool and
brought back up to line level via the ISA828 instrument inputs, as was the case with the WEM Custom
Copicat output (this is fed line level as that allows plenty of overdrive earlier on the dial). The Moogerfooger
Lowpass filter, which also happily takes line level at the input, output level was brought back up with the ART
PROVLA and given a few dB of compression while it was there. The Gyraf GIX (G9) valve preamp had its
two channels chained for extra gain and distortion control – the output of channel 1 was fed into the mic level
input of channel 2 for a different flavour of distortion thanks to the impedance mismatching. The CAPI VP26s
were also chained up for subtle distortion on the first and a more heavy clipping at the input of the second.
The sample name reference for the VP26s is 'DOA' as they are based around Discrete Op Amps (Operation
Amplifiers), which in this case are of the 990 type originally designed by Dean Jensen.

The Kontakt instruments (created in version 5) collate the hits in two sets per drum type: Outboard and
Pedals. The former includes the Valve Preamp, Valve Tape Echo, DOA Preamp and Digital FX Unit hits,
whilst the latter is comprised of the hits from Moogerfooger LPF, Fuzz Pedal, Octofuzz Pedal and Overdrive
Pedal folder. The Kontakt instruments are arranged chromatically from C0 and up for the kicks and from C1
for the snares and toms. A ladder LPF is assigned to CC74 and CC01 (Mod Wheel) controls an HPF in the
instruments. The hits are also assigned to separate groups per process within the instruments.
