Note: Disable Internet connection before following the below steps (simply remove the LAN cable). The program was installed on 5-Mar-14 @1:23 pm IST on my PC with Win 7
1. Install "CyberLink.PowerDirector.Ultimate.12.0.2109.0.exe" selecting "English (US)" and in the default directory including the SmartSound, WaveEditor 2 extras
Important: Do not launch the application as of yet. Uncheck "Launch powerdirector" and then click on Finish to complete the installation
2. Now install the patch file "PowerDirector_2420_GM4_Patch_Patch_VDE131113-01.exe"

3. Edit the hosts file located in C:WindowsSystem32driversetc for Windows 7 users and add the following in a new line at the bottom (if you don't know how to edit the Hosts file, search it on google):

4. Now, launch Power Director and select "Full Feature editor"
5. It will ask for a Serial number:

6. Copy the above serial no., paste it in the Activation window and click Next. A message will pop-up saying "You have activated cyberlink Power director 12.0 Ultimate. Click OK to begin using the program.". Click OK
7. Next, it will ask "would you like to participate in the cyberlink product improvement program?". Just choose "No, thank you" and click on "Close".
8. Skip the registration process by unchecking "remind me later" & "I would like to receive..." and finally clicking "Skip Registration".
9. Now a message box will pop-up saying: "CyberLink PowerDirector detected that you are importing high definition video. Do you want to enable shadow files for the video...". Just click on "Yes".
10. From the PowerDirector application, click on Edit -> Preferences and unselect the option "Automatically check for software updates". Click OK to close preferences window.
11. Next, click on File -> import -> Media files and select a MKV/MP4 clip/movie. As soon as you select the file, it will give you a prompt "Internet Connection Required - PowerDirector cannot play this media because some components have not yet been activated..." Just click on the link that reads "I don't have an internet connection now".
12. The Activate Components window will pop-up. For me the URL was:
