Wanneer het nieuwsgierige aapje George kennis maakt met Kayla, een tovenaarsolifant met heimwee, wil hij haar helpen om haar broers en zussen terug te vinden in Californië. Danno Wolfe, de veiligheidschef van de tovenaar, koestert echter vermoedens dat George de olifant wil ontvoeren en hij begint een diepgravend onderzoek om de vermiste dikhuid op te sporen. Met de hete adem van Wolfe in hun nek ondernemen George, Kayla en Ted (De Man met de Gele Hoed) een dolkomische reis. Met de trein, een vrachtwagen, ja zelfs een motorloze schoolbus, doorkruisen ze het hele land om Kayla met haar familie.

When Curious George meets Kayla, a magician's homesick
elephant, he decides to help her visit her brothers and
sisters in California.
But when the magician's dogged security chief, Danno Wolfe,
becomes convinced George has masterminded an elephant napping,
he begins an all-out investigation to track down the missing
pachyderm. With Wolfe hot on their heels, George, Kayla and
Ted (The Man with the Yellow Hat) travel by train, truck and
even an engineless school bus on a comical cross-country trip
to reunite Kayla with her family.
