Description

This popular Court TV series explores the corruption, greed, and scandal hidden beneath the wealth and prestige of America's upper class. Who better than bestselling author and Vanity Fair columnist Dominick Dunne to expose the sordid secrets of America's rich and famous? Already an established Hollywood producer in the late 70s, Dunne left the world of Los Angeles to live a simpler kind of life and work on his writing. A personal tragedy soon gave Dunne a clear purpose: to draw attention to those members of high society who believe their wealth and privilege exempt them from legal repercussions. Eager to hold these parties accountable for their mistakes, Dunne has dedicated his time to exploring the seedy underbelly of fame and celebrity ever since.

No one knows the dark side of the rich and famous better than Dominick Dunne. He's the consummate insider, renowned for getting the stories no one else can. Now this best-selling author and celebrated columnist for Vanity Fair magazine brings his singular perspective to television with a selection of notorious cases. From the Hamptons to Palm Beach, Texas to California - Dunne infiltrates the enclaves of the powerful, and chronicles shocking stories where arrogance leads the rich to believe they are above the law, and celebrity collides with justice. Dunne, a prolific author and well-known as a social diarist, takes viewers behind estate walls and country club gates to reveal the often not-so-glamorous side of high society. Dominick Dunne: Power, Privilege & Justice will rivet you with a selection of notorious cases that uncover the lowest depths of High Society.

Movie executive-cum-investigative journalist Dominick Dunne was both the host and the driving force of this cable-TV series, which asked the age-old question "Is there truly one law for the rich and one for the poor?" Apparently there was: Each of the series' 60-minute episodes detailed a high-profile murder case in which both perpetrator and victim were among the privileged and wealthy. Dunne demonstrated that the wheels of justice sometimes move slowly, in reverse, or not at all when the criminals have the money and clout to circumvent the System. Happily, however, most of the cases presented herein ended with justice being served and proper punishment meted out to the deserving (though often years and years after the actual crime). Triggered by his 22 year old actress daughter Dominique's murder, Dominick Dunne's career as controversial commentator for Vanity Fair began as he championed the rights of high profile murder victims. Dunne covered such cases as the William Kennedy Smith rape trial in 1991 and the trial of Erik and Lyle Menendez, accused of murdering their millionaire parents, in 1993. He became a familiar face to millions during the heavily televised O.J. Simpson trial in 1994 and also covered the Princess Diana inquest. Featured in this final series are the stories of some of the most fascinating and high profile cases. Dominick Dunne's Power, Privilege and Justice made its Court TV debut on June 19, 2002, a scant week or so after the murder conviction of Kennedy family member Michael Skakel, whose quarter-century evasion of justice had been the topic of Dunne's 1993 book A Season in Purgatory.

Episode 1 : A Deadly Campaign - The Senate Campaign Hits
Ruthann Aron, 54, of Potomac, Maryland, knew exactly what she wanted and she wasn't going to let anyone get in the way of her achieving her goals. Aron, a feisty, self-made millionaire, makes an unsuccessful bid for Maryland's US Senate seat in 1994. She then orders a hit on a rival attorney and her husband in return for $20,000 cash. When investigators are tipped off by a local garbage hauler, Ruthann is arrested while playing in a charity golf tournament. Why would a once promising politician risk everything for a murder-for-hire scheme?
