Command & Conquer: Red Alert (1996) [Windows 98-XP-Vista-7][Linux]

Command & Conquer: Red Alert is a real-time strategy computer game of the Command & Conquer franchise, produced by Westwood Studios and released by Virgin Interactive in 1996. The second game to bear the "C&C" title, Red Alert is the prequel to the original Command & Conquer of 1995, and takes place in the alternate early history of Command & Conquer when Allied Forces battle an aggressive Soviet Union for control over the European mainland.

This is the original Command & Conquer: red Alert 1996 with no changes in the gameplay but lots of bug-fixes and improvements to accommodate modern hardware (Widescreen, multi-core processor and others) and modern operating systems.

Tested on Windows XP and Linux Ubuntu 14.10. Should also work on Windows 98, Vista and 7. Not tested on other versions of Windows.

This installer requires at least Microsft DotNet 2.0 or higher.

Instructions:

Windows users

Double click, install and play. If the game fails to launch, you don’t have DotNet 2.0 which is very unlikely. Install it and it should work fine.


Linux users:

1. Have WINE? If no, install WINE and WineTricks.
2. Double-click or right click and select, Open with WINE Windows Program Loader.
3. Once it finishes, uncheck, “Launch Video Settings” and finish the installation.
4. If you have DotNet 2.0 or higher installed, go to step 9.
5. Open terminal and type, winetricks. In Winetricks, Select the default wineprefix and click OK.
6. Select “Install a Windows DLL or Component”, press OK.
7. Scroll down, select dotnet20 and press OK. Let the process complete.
8. Apply the setting. Close Winetricks.
9. Adjust the video settings from the editor.
10. Play!

If you have an error like, Unable to allocate video buffer, aborting! Then do the following.
1. In Winetricks, “Select the default wineprefix” again and click OK.
2. Select “Run winecfg”
3. Go To Libraries tab, in the New override for library box, type ddraw.dll, Press Add.
4. Apply the setting. Close Winetricks.
