Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour FIXED for OS X >10.6

Solves problems:
• Your C&C Generals Zero Hour installation has PPC apps
• Your C&C Generals Zero Hour (fresh installation) crashes immediately on execution
• Your C&C Generals Zero Hour runs for a second, then quits

If this does not solve your problem, try with a fresh installation. If it still doesn't solve your problem, then it is not your answer (and I don't know what the hell is wrong with it)

NOTE: This was created and tested on OS X 10.9.4. Should work on any version of OS X after 10.5, but it is UNTESTED.


OS X went through a lot of changes. The first was at 10.6 -- snow leopard no longer supported PPC programs. C&C Generals Update 1.0.4 fixed that, and this Zero Hour.app begins with that updated version. Next, around OS X 10.7, the networking (OpenTransport) library used by C&C was deprecated and no longer included. You'll find a copy of the binary from an old version of OpenTransport in Zero Hour.app/Contents/MacOS. Finally, around OS X 10.8, the OpenGL framework was updated, and Zero Hour made calls that were no longer supported, resulting in a crash. The OpenGL.framework from an older version is included next to the OpenTransport binary in Zero Hour.app/Contents/MacOS. To get the Zero Hour binary to run with the OpenTransport binary included in the app/Contents, the Zero Hour binary was renamed Zero Hour_bin, and a shell script named Zero Hour (to be executed in place of the original binary) was written to execute the original binary forcing the OpenTransport library:

How to apply C&C Generals Zero Hour (OS X) fix:
1. Simply overwrite Zero Hour.app with the fixed version in this folder and enjoy.
