"Potechi" or "Chips" (2012) Japanese with synched English soft coded subs (despite it's small file size mp4 encode it is remarkably clear!) is a shortish film at 68 minutes, and is the 4th film directed by Yoshihiro Nakamura based on a story by writer Kotaro Isaka (who's novels are the basis of a number of non-Nakamura directed films). Unlike Nakamura's other films based on Isaka’s fiction, however, “Chips” plays like a tightly written short story, with a 68-minute running time and no narrative fat whatsoever. Call it minor if you will, but it’s also sweet and sure, like the stroke of a hitter who knows, from the crack of his bat, that the ball is out of the park.
The story of Potechi is set in Sendai, Japan, and about 2 men live completely different lives. One is a star professional baseball player and the other burglarizes empty homes. Their fate connects with unseeable connections when Tadashi Imamura (Gaku Hamada) and a suicidal woman enter the home of the professional baseball player ...
