CHRISTOPHER E FORTH is the Jack and Shirley Howard Teaching Professor in Humanities & Western Civilization at the University of Kansas. His books include The Dreyfus Affair and the Crisis of French Manhood, Masculinity in the Modern West: Gender, Civilization and the Body, and the co-edited volumes Cultures of the Abdomen: Diet, Digestion and Fat in the Modern World and French Masculinities: History, Culture and Politics.
