Gli studenti dovrebbero prepararsi alla maturità; ma oltre all'insegnante di educazione fisica e alla supplente di storia e filosofia, non si vedono altri professori. Sempre e solo loro, gli studenti, a discutere non certamente di problemi scolastici ma di avventure sentimentali, spesso più sognate che reali. All'aula scolastica preferiscono il bar "Chewingum" all'aperto, dove, oltre ad ammirare il Colosseo, di fronte al quale si trova la scuola, possono scommettere sulla marca della prima macchina in arrivo. Alle avventure sentimentali incrociate, tra alunni e alunne della classe, non poteva non aggiungersi anche quella di uno studente innamorato - ma non corrisposto - della supplente di storia e filosofia. Arriva finalmente, anche per lo spettatore, il giorno della maturità, ma solo per preannunciare il grande banchetto finale d'addio d'una classe mai esistita come tale in tutto il film.
