The band’s debut album „Thunder And Lightning“ was released in April 1988. A great deal for the 2nd album was unfortunately cancelled close before the signing in 1989. CANNON nevertheless started the production of this record on a a self-financed basis in 1991. Unfortunately the tapes with the still unfinished record got stolen. In 1994, the band recorded a 7 track demo tape and re-issued the sought after “Thunder And Lightning” album on tape. These tapes massively sold at the band’s live shows. The beginning of the end for the band was the departure of drummer Mats Toralf in 1994. After a long, fruitless search for a proper replacement, singer Mat Rein Jaehnke also decided to leave the band in October 1996. Soon afterwards, CANNON split off completely. But sometimes things come and go. At a concert in Hannover in May 2003, former CANNON members Steve Carrington and Mat Rein Jaehnke met at a concert. After a couple of talkings, they found out that the interest in making music still was alive. At the same time, the original LP of “Thunder And Lightning” received high bids at ebay and was sold for high prices at mailorder shops. The other band members were contacted and first discussions about a CANNON reunion came up quickly. CANNON again are existing since September 2003. Drums though now are handled by original guitarist Walter Mueller (besides the guitar work) who originally started to perform as a drummer. In November 2003, the band started to write new songs and to record new demos at Steve Carrington’s homestudio. The new collaboration resulted in signing a record deal for a double CD release containing the original “Thunder And Lightning” album and the unreleased “Timeriders” material with Point Music in late March 2004. This album was released under the name of “The History” in July 2004. The reactions on the first release since 16 years were massive. The album received great reviews inside Germany and Europe but also in North an South America. But everyone was waiting for the new songs. “Back In Business” was released in June 2005 all over Europe via POINT MUSIC. The music on BIB still combines 80’s hard rock traditions with up-to-date elements. The charismatic CANNON sing-a-long choruses still are there as well as catchy hooks and diverse song-material which always used to be one trademark of this band. BIB received great reviews too, especially in the USA. So the US-Label METAL MAYHEM MUSIC signed the band and released BIB with new artwork in May 2006. The band got also offers to play festivals in the US. But unfortunately live events like this or others were not possible because neither the labels nor the band could implement the financing. The new album in 2008 should be the next step forward. The songs are straighter, harder and the production is more powerful. Nevertheless the charismatic CANNON sing-a-long choruses are still there as well as catchy hooks. The band prove that they are still able to write good songs. Sharing Widget |
