DescriptionThe Drum: (Camaro #0.3) by Sam Hawken English | EPUB | ASIN: B00EO64L5Q January 6, 2014 | ten eighteen press Mystery, Thriller & Suspense CONTENTS 25 Chapters Excerpt: Chapter One Camaro Espinoza had the cord of wood delivered on the first of the month, and after letting it sit for a week she went out to work on it. Though it was cooling hard into winter in northern Minnesota, and she could see her breath, she stripped off her flannel shirt and labored in a short-sleeved tee to keep from sweating. Her maul had an eight-pound head and she used the momentum of her swing to bring it over her shoulder and down hard to strike the upright rounds in their centers. The wood was good, seasoned for months, and split well. Every blow of the maul brought a sturdy, audible crack as the wood cleaved. From time to time the maul would stick in the broad, old stump she used for this purpose, but a twist and a tug and it was free to chop again. She let the split rounds fall where they liked, and before too long the space around the stump was thick with wood. Camaro had almost decided to take a break and clean the mess herself when she heard the stuttering sound of a two-stroke dirt bike engine and Cody McKinney came winding up the unpaved road that led to the house. Camaro paused and let the maul rest on the stump, raising her hand as Cody drew near. The boy waved back and brought his bike to a stop in front of the little log house Camaro called home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sisters in Arms: (Camaro #0.4) by Sam Hawken English | EPUB | ASIN: B00FBRKLH4 January 6, 2014 | ten eighteen press Mystery, Thriller & Suspense CONTENTS 25 Chapters Excerpt: Chapter One They were in the Bashgal Valley in the Nuristan Province of Afghanistan near a small village whose name was filed away in some database back in Kabul. All around them rose the peaks of unfriendly mountains, scattered with trees, but still washed in hot summer light. The village itself was a collection of little houses made of white stone taken from the surrounding earth, crawling up the slope of the valley wall. Their convoy was three Humvees and there were twelve solders altogether, a mixed unit of American and Afghan troops. Sergeant First Class Camaro Espinoza deployed at the village with her field medical kit and they set up in a home that had been abandoned years before. Its floor was bare dirt and the windows were uncovered. Dust had settled over the few pieces of furniture left behind. Camaro spread a tarp on a table as a workspace and then the soldiers went out through the village to tell them a doctor was there to see them. Camaro was only a Sixty-Eight Whiskey, a combat medic, but she was trained to provide basic medical care to military and civilians alike. Her kit was full of antibiotics and dressings and the things she needed to treat the common ailments of people who might never see a doctor in all their lives. Mostly children came, and women, but the occasional man broke the taboo and allowed a woman to examine him if his malady was serious enough. Today it was all children. Camaro didn’t mind. Children were her favorite patients. Related Torrents
