DescriptionIn his early years, Celibidache was fast-tracked to lead the Berlin Philharmonic. But he always spoke his mind about other conductors and performers during published interviews, and he was almost always highly insulting--in a very generalized, "they're terrible, they know nothing" kind of way. He left Berlin after scandals over his remarks in the early 1950s. He'd also appear in Venezuela, and with various pickup orchestras for Rome's classical broadcasts on RAI. In fact, he was the only conductor who could make many of those could-care-less musicians sit up and actually take notice. By the late 1960s he was in Sweden, which is where this excellent Bruckner 4th comes from. It's one of the best on record, in my opinion. Enjoy. Sharing Widget |
