The Renaissance disc featuring a remarkably spontaneous collaboration between pianist Artur Balsam and violinist Bronislaw Gimpel conducting a nameless pick-up orchestra has long ago made it into one of this listener's favorites (and the reason for this new transfer). If there exists such a thing as a "fortunate chemistry" between artists, it's certainly present in this early 1950's gem.
In fact, much the same might be said of all three concerto recordings from Gimpel offered here - except that the Southwest (German) Radio Orchestra under Rolf Reinhardt brings an unusual polish and sympathy to the collaborations.
