Birds of The Indian Subcontinent is a guidebook and source of information on birds found in the Indian subcontinent, i.e. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and the Maldives. The authors, Richard Grimmett, Tim Inskipp and Carol Inskipp have travelled extensively in these regions and the book is an outcome of their travels. It has a number of features in order to make the identification of the birds an easy task for amateurs.

The book comes with complete colour maps of the Indian subcontinent and nearly all the bird species found here. It throws light on the important and distinguishable features of the birds and lists information on nearly 1300 species of birds. Some of the birds mentioned in Birds of The Indian Subcontinent are Otus thilohoffmanni, S. whistleri and Seicercus burkii.

The book comes with 214 colour plates in order to help distinguish the birds. These colour plates are placed in such a manner that they face the maps and text, to help in identifying birds quickly. It also has detailed tables with bird characteristics, to help identify some specific birds that are difficult to spot like the rose finch, warbler and nightjar.
