Joel's company, Record Research Inc., publishes books based on Billboard Magazine's weekly chart data. His Pop Annual rank, by year, the 18,000 singles that entered Billboard's "Hot 100" charts from 1965-1986. Using this research, Joel carefully compiled the chart-topping titles that he felt were most definitive rock'n' roll hits of year year.
