Big Jim And The Figaro Club - BBC Radio First broadcast Feb/Mar 1987 on BBC Radio 4 Radio adaptation of the TV comedy series from 1979 (only six episodes made), with Bernard Cribbins taking over the role of narrator from Bob Hoskins. The war is over and servicemen are returning to civvy street seeking work. In the south coast harbour town of Boghampton-On-Sea people are rebuilding their lives and the new homes are needed. Employed by the local council is a certain team of workers with their foreman Big Jim and his crew, the ‘Figaro Cub’. Directing the work is the ambitious and pompous clerk of works, Perkins, who is constantly being is cut down to size when his men consider it necessary.
