ॐI have Dedicated Serverॐ Internationally renowned vocalist Shashika Mooruth (Now Sacidevi Dasi)made her prodigious debut at the tender age of seven, on the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmashtami at the Shri Luxmi Narayan Temple, Durban, South Africa. As a child artiste, she performed in many concerts in South Africa, impressing all who heard her with her mellifluous voice. She was also the first and only S. African to accompany on stage, the late all-time great thespians of music, Kishore Kumar, and Mahendra Kapoor. Kishore Kumar, in his commendation of her soaring talent, labeled her as a singer ‘born in the wrong countryâ™ and urged her father to send her to Bombay for training as a playback singer. He had the vision that with training and guidance, she would be a great contribution to the music industry. Shashika pursued part-time classes in Speech and Drama from London and South Africa through her primary and high-school years. After her graduation from high school, the desire to go to India and pursue her passion for music increased. With the blessings of her parents and well-wishers in SA, she left for that sacred land and enrolled in the Hindustani Classical arts program at the Bharati Vidya Bhavan, in Mumbai, India, with the intention of returning to South Africa to teach music. However, as her knowledge and her virtuosity grew, she landed a contract with Venus Records in India and continued to pursue a career in the music industry. Her horizons broadened with subsequent concerts with Pdt. Hrdayanath Mangeshkar and Mahesh Kumar in separate performances. More exposure of her burgeoning talent was evident as she sang with Indian artistes Shabbir Kumar, Sudesh Bhosle, Abhijeet, Sonu Nigaam, Sukhwinder Singh and Udit Narayan. While studying in Mumbai she also completed a degree in Science through University of S. Africa. Shashika was honored in 1995 at the World Hindu Conference in South Africa for her contribution to Indian music. Widely traveled to more than twenty-five countries, her voice with its unique timbre is her passport to much acclaim. She has had the honor of performing for a select audience at the United Nations and receiving overwhelming applause. The late world renowned Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saheb heard her sing in Mumbai and was all praise for her talent and voice which he described as ‘steeped in devotionâ™. Her love for music propels her to experiment with different styles; this interest in learning and honing her skills has given her a versatility non-pareil. Commercially, she has lent her voice to devotional, pop, movies, semi-classical and techno compositions. In 2009 she decided to dedicate more time to commercial music in Mumbai and penned and recorded a piece in Western voice for a title song by Adnan Sami for the film Ek Second Jo Zindagi Badal De with music by Saawan Kumar Saawan. Impressed by her, Saawan then recorded her voice for a TV serial Ek Kahani Aisi Bhi to be screened soon on Doordarshan. She has also sung playback for Gujarathi movies. Gifted with a voice steeped in devotion, she found a higher purpose when her spiritual quest led her to her guru, HH Sacinandana Swami in 1997 and received initiation from him into the Vaisnava tradition. He also gave her the beautiful name Sacidevi Dasi, instructing her to “always sing for Krishna” and spread the sacred name of God. In 2003 she established URJA MUSIC, a music company that markets her devotional albums. Among her many successful music albums is Swagatam Krishna, Sweet Chant, Gopala, Dil Mein Tum, Jiyo Shyam Lala and Durban Mein Machgaya Halla. TRACK LIST. 01.
