Between The Lines S1 Complete (Size: 16.3 GB)
Description"Between The Lines" is set in the Complaints Investigation Bureau (CIB) - the department responsible for investigating other police officers - of London's Metropolitan Police. The first two series had stories based around various different aspects of the darker side of the police, ranging from such topics as petty corruption, racism and sexual harassment through to grand conspiracy, with some plot threads running through the series over several episodes. The series also dealt with the personal lives of it's less-than-clean-cut characters, particularly the womanising lead character Tony Clark, and is also notable for its inclusion of a lesbian character in a major role. In the third and final series, the focus changed significantly, moving away from the police force to other areas of security and espionage. Private Enterprise TX : 4th September 1992 Director : Charles McDougall Script : J C Wilsher Cast : Ciaran Hinds (Detective Inspector Micky Flynn), James Laurenson (Superintendent Pat Salter), Ben Chaplin (Andy Spence), Alan Stocks (Police Constable Stoddart), Matthew Long (Chief Superintendent Pollock), Peter McNamara (Detective Sergeant Paul Tanner), Janet Amsden (Scene Of Crime Officer), Iain Rattray (Flying Squad Commander), Lynn Turner (CIB Officer), John Ashe (CIB Officer), Amanda Boxer (Sheila Curry), Annie Hulley (Carol Salter), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (The Teenage Girl), Jesse Owen (The Teenage Girl), Vincent Regan (Thomas McMurray) and Geraldine O'Connell (The Bank Cashier). Publicity : Yet another police series, you may groan, but this thirteen-parter created by J C Wilsher does seem to have found a new angle. It is about investigations within the police force and the tensions which arise when the police have to be judge and jury in their own cases. Neil Pearson (of Drop The Dead Donkey) plays Tony Clark, a pushy young detective hoping for promotion to the Flying Squad, who finds himself having to root out corruption at his own station. The main storyline, about officers taking kick-backs from laundered drugs money, sustains a tense and exciting narrative, filmed with convincing realism. At the same time we have glimpses of Clark's life off-duty, revealing him as a womaniser enjoying an extra-martial affair with a WPC. On the early evidence, Between The Lines (BBC-1, 9:30pm) is the best new cop show since Jimmy Nail's Spender. (The Times, September 4, 1992). Notes : The season was originally transmitted 9:30pm to 10:20pm on BBC 1.
