Berwald - Singulière & Weber - Symphony No. 1 - Dixon (Size: 233.79 MB)
Description
Franz Berwald (1796-1868)
Sinfonie singulière in C Major Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826) Symphony No. 1 in C major Radio-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt Dean Dixon (ex libris, 1978; recorded Sept. 29, 1972) ____________________________ Dean Dixon (1913-1976) died at the age of 61 - far too young for a conductor - especially one of Dixon's abilities. Dixon was unusually fluent with the works of the 19th century, as these 1972 recordings more than amply reveal. It leads one to wish hearing the remaining Berwald symphonies from Dixon's hand. From 1953 to 1960, Dixon directed the Göteborg Symphony, and it's well-imaginable that he may have conducted Berwald during this time (this listener owns a 5-LP set of historical concert recordings from the Göteborg Symphony - including Dixon's - which leaves this question open ... but belonging to the category of things which may never be answered). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Dixon ________________________________________ LP transfers of above material.
