Beethoven - Piano Sonatas Nos. 30, 31, 32 (SACD-ISO) (Maurizio Pollini) (Size: 2.51 GB)
DescriptionBeethoven: Piano Sonatas Nos. 30, 31, 32 (SACD-ISO) Release Date: 08/12/1997 DG Japan with Catalog No.UCGG-9042 Spars Code: ADD Composer: Ludwig van Beethoven Performer: Maurizio Pollini Pollini’s accounts of the late sonatas are steely, brilliant, and heated – outgoing interpretations with a sure grip of structure and sound. In them, the pianist never seems to push his limits, which may be a drawback considering that Beethoven wanted to suggest that effect. Still, Pollini leaves one deeply impressed with these readings, nowhere more than in the finale of Opus 111. Here there is no great leave-taking, but a vision of Beethoven soaring beyond the bounds of song. In these recordings from 1975-77, the piano seems to have been miked from about six inches off the strings, yielding a percussive, clangorously aggressive sound and no sense of space. – Ted Libbey, author of The NPR Guide to Building a Classical CD Collection Related Torrents
