Richard uses a somewhat teleological wording now and then in both episodes. As if life as we know it was the aim of the universe. This is a very unscientific approach.

Yes Hammond has a liking for rhetoric and dogma. Witness his 2011 three part series, Richard Hammond Stares Up His Own Arse At The Licence-Payer's Expense, or its well received 2012 sequel, Richard Hammond: Son Of God.
