Walter Attard has reached his last day as an accountant. A small accountant, running a small firm, catering for other small businesses, his very first client is also his very last. Even though he has not met his client for almost 40 years, for old times' sake, Attard decides to personally deliver the accounts to his client, another small, one man business.

When he reaches his client's offices however, he finds a huge coimpany there, the company whose accounts he has just audited being one of dozens forming a huge corporation. As Attard starts to dig further to find out what has happened in the intervening years, he discovers an historic tale of deceit and murder, leading from World War 2 back to the present day (well, the early 1980s)......
