The book was adapted into a film, which was released in 1967. Goscinny and Uderzo were not consulted during the making of the film, and the first they heard of it was a few months before it was released, when they were shown an early version of it. It was generally not well received, and a planned adaptation of Asterix and the Golden Sickle, made by the same animation team, was scrapped.

Cleopatra and Julius Caesar have made a bet, with Caesar wagering the project cannot be completed in a few weeks time. With the help of a magic potion, Asterix comes to the rescue of the Queen of the Nile as Caesar and an angry architect plot against them.

Asterix and Cleopatra is a Belgian/French animated film released in 1968; it is the second Asterix adventure to be made into a feature film. Overseen by Asterix creators Goscinny and Uderzo (who had no involvement in the production of the first film Asterix the Gaul), the film is noticeably more well-produced than its prequel, featuring far more detailed animation and a more polished soundtrack.

Asterix and Cleopatra is practically a musical, featuring three individual song sequences and a more varied score than the earlier film. Elements of satire and surreal humour (such as Cleopatra's singing lion and the engraving of Santa Claus on the pyramid wall) are prominent throughout.

The Twelve Tasks of Asterix (Les Douze travaux d'Astérix) is a 1976 French animated feature film based on the Asterix comic book series. René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, the creators of the series, wrote the story and directed the film themselves; with co-direction by Pierre Watrin and the screenplay co-written by Pierre Tchernia, a friend of Goscinny and Uderzo. The movie was directed, produced and animated at Goscinny and Uderzo's own animation studio, Studios Idéfix and the only Asterix animated film how used Xerography Process.[further explanation needed]

It is the only Asterix movie to date (animated or live-action) to be based on an original screenplay rather than on material from any of the comic book stories. Later, however, it was adapted into a comic book as well as an illustrated text story book and a series of twelve books for young readers.

Asterix and Caesar (Astérix et la surprise de César, 1985) is the first of the 1980s Asterix films and the fourth film adaption based on the Asterix comic books. The plot was adapted primarily from the books Asterix the Legionary and Asterix the Gladiator by Goscinny and Uderzo's friend Pierre Tchernia.

A book of the film was released containing the story and stills from the film. It was later re-printed when Orion Publishing re-released the entire series.

After another raid in an empty village, the chief of the Vikings Timandahaf misunderstands the explanation of his druid Cryptograf that "fear gives wings to the dwellers" and believes that fear actually makes the villagers fly. They decide to chase the champion of fear in Gaul to learn how to fly and make them invincible warriors. Meanwhile, the nephew of Vitalstatistix, Justforkix, is sent from Parisium to the Gaulish village to become a man and Asterix and Obelix are assigned to train the youngster. The stupid son of Cryptograf, Olaf, listens to a conversation of the coward Justforkix with Asterix and Obelix and kidnaps him. While returning to the Viking village, Justforkix meets Abba, the daughter of Timandahaf, and they fall in love for each other. But the Machiavellian and ambitious Cryptograf plan to marry his son Olaf with Abba and become powerful. In the end, Asterix realizes that it is not fear that gives wings, it is love.

Asterix and the Vikings (working international English title for Astérix et les Vikings) is a 2006 animated feature film, produced in France and Denmark, and directed by Stefan Fjeldmark and Jesper Møller. The story was adapted from the graphic novel Asterix and the Normans, which was written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo. The film was written by Stefan Fjeldmark in collaboration with Jean-Luc Gossens, with supplementary dialogue by Philip LaZebnik. The story has seen some changes from the original comic book: for example, the prolonged journey of the heroes back to Norway (the comic takes place almost entirely in Gaul)and the banquet and fight scenes therein. Also, the inclusion of the strong-willed daughter of Timandahaf, Abba, Justforkix's father, Doublehelix (a mentioned, but unseen character in the book) and dim-witted son of Crypthograf, Olaf and anachronist references about modern technology such as SMS. The resolution to the Vikings' quest for fear remained the same, but was minimalized to a brief gag in the movie's finale wedding scene.
