Description Richard Arnell had his greatest successes as a composer in the 1950s, when he drew the attention and praise of the well-known conductor, Thomas Beecham. After that point he began experimenting with mechanical and electronic sound, and drew far enough from both the traditional mainstream and the aleatory young turks to alienate nearly all backers. His Piano Concerto dates from 1947, and is one of the earliest works of Arnell that reveals his musical language in its mature state. It is an extroverted composition with all the color and sharp wit that would accompany his music through the next decade, before the Darmstadt serialists put many of the more traditional British composers temporarily in the shade. Transfers are made at 768 kBits/s, directly from the disc. A bio is enclosed.
