The perfect rip! Good old AVI file of Xvid video (+800 kbps with 640p frame width and a perfectly original widescreen), muxed with MP3 audio (cbr 128 kbps). Don't hesitate while it may be hardly more than 700mb, because we're still talking a 2-hour-long movie. The result is so perfect I wouldn't ask for more. Thank you very much and please keep up such good cooking!

You see, I'm promoting the AVI container. I am afraid the MP4 and the MKV are taking over the AVI and I am definitely not for it. I am glad to have an up-to-date PC, I mean a Dual-Core that'd perfectly play these further dense and sophisticated containers, but I keep an older Pentium IV in my dining room and there I can tell the difference, where only AVIs play smoothly.

My point is: of course there's no need to fit any movie into a CD, but there are other reasons to keep a 2-hour-long movie at about 800mb, such as saving space for other movies!\n

My conclusion: If you're not especially asking for HD quality but for the average thing, keep the AVI container with a config like the one we've got here. I personally recommend Xvid video at 1000kbps for a widescreen of minimum 640p width (or yet maximum 720p) muxed with MP3 audio at 192kbps.\n
