Dolby Headphone, sometimes referred to as Mobile Surround, is a technology which allows you to listen to music, watch movies, or play video games with surround effects using any set of two channel stereo headphones. The sources of this release are surround versions of the tracks ripped from the DVD (Deluxe Edition).

With their 10th album, England's Anathema seal the deal on their transformed sound, leaving behind the doom metal of their early days and restraining the prog fantasies that have flavored good chunks of their last few releases. The dramatic crescendos, swells, and sweeps are as majestic and beautiful as anything on their last effort, Weather Systems; some tracks might even surpass that heady collection. The brothers Cavanagh (Vincent, Jamie, and Daniel) make a forceful team on their respective instruments (voice, keyboards, bass, and guitar). The whole band feels like a storm troop with a dead-serious mission: raise some goosebumps, encourage unabashed solo singing in the car, and generally go for the gut and heartstrings. Programmer and keyboardist John Douglas writes the tunes with Vincent and Daniel, and the songwriting is inarguably the outfit's driving force. Writing and arranging thoughtful, emotionally powerful mini-epics that work in Anathema’s unique electronic-meets-orchestral milieu isn't easy; nor is getting through all eight minutes of the title track without some theatrical interpretation of your own.

The album was recorded at Cederberg Studios in Oslo, with producer Christer-André Cederberg, with some songs also mixed by Steven Wilson due to an operation on Cederberg's back. The band released a statement on their new album prior to its release:

"Distant Satellites is the culmination of everything Anathema been working up to so far in our musical path. It contains almost every conceivable element of the heartbeat of Anathema music that it is possible to have. There is beauty, intensity, drama, quietude, and extra musical dimensions that the band have previously only hinted at. All built on the song writing chemistry of Daniel, John and Vincent - and the haunting voice of Lee Douglas."
