American Top 40 1983 January 15th (Size: 275.79 MB)
Description"I'm Casey Kasem, countin' 'em down to number one." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio. In this countdown two listeners want to know, "What singer in the Rock Era has had the most hits in the top 40 at the same time. Casey says the most hits in the 40 by a singer at once was five. It was a chart overdosed on Elvis. He was at numbers 38, 35, 17, 11, and 10 in January, 1957 (it was in all the papers). Casey tells all about it right after "Memory" by Barry Manilow (at number 39) from the musical "Cats." And since I am allergic to cats, I had to skip the double-dose of Stray Cats: at #26 with "Rock This Town" and #35 with "Stray Cat Strut." I'm allergic to tigers and lions and all those other kinds of cats that can kill me. This is the 4th week "What About Me" by Moving Pictures has been at the #34 spot. If they knew they were just going to sit in the same spot forever, they should have named the band "Freeze Frame." Culture Club debuts at #34 with "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me." If you have to ask how much it is, you really can't afford it. Casey answers the question, "What family act has hit #1 the most?" He reports the Top Five alphabetically are The Beach Boys, The Bee Gees, The Carpenters, The Everly Brothers, and the Jacksons. Hear the answer right after The J. Geils Band performs "I Do" (at number 24). Casey plays a sax-sampler (get your mind out of the gutter, there's not room down here for both of us). He plays famous riffs by King Curtis of The Coasters, Chuck Rio of The Champs, Junior Walker and the All Stars, Bobby Keys, Clarence Clemons, Rafael Ravenscroft, and Greg Ham. Casey tells how Patti Austin (at number 8 singing "Baby Come To Me"), made her singing debut at the age of four on stage with the Queen of the Blues, Dinah Washington.
