American Top 40 1981 September 12th Guest Host Gary Owens (Size: 297.81 MB)
Description"For Casey Kasem, I'm Gary Owens counting down the biggest hits in the USA from Queen City, Texas, to Queensland Georgia; from Queens, New York, to Queen Creek, Arizona, and at number six, here's Juice Newton with "Queen Of Hearts." Originally broadcast on September 12th, 1981, this program is brought to you by RocketMan's College of Musical Knowledge in conjunction with the CoPilot of the Airwaves (and his faithful dog Shukatoom). This is American Top 40 with Casey Kasem. In this countdown Gary observes that in motion pictures, the fictional characters of Tarzan and Dracula have inspired dozens of movies, and the great English detective Sherlock Holmes is responsible for more than 170 film events. But the fictional character to inspire the most Top 40 hits is known as 007, and his 13 films in place by 1981 had generated 6 Top 40 hits. All this takes place right before Sheena Easton sings "For Your Eyes Only" (at number 23). Al Jarreau debuts with his very first Top 40 hit. "We're In This Love Together" is at number 39. Mr. Owens starts snooping through Casey's mail and finds a letter from a listener who wants to know, "What has been the biggest hit for a Canadian act in chart history?" Gary says out of the six Canadian #1's to choose from, it was a movie theme that made #1 its summer-place for nine weeks. Gary recounts the 5 married couples to have had a #1 hit, 1 before and 4 during the Rock Era.
