American Top 40 1975 September 27th (Size: 210.62 MB)
Description"Three hours once a week on American Top 40 and you know where your favorite songs are on the national music scene. My name's Casey Kasem. On with the countdown that doesn't stop till we get to our new, number one best-selling song." American Top 40 with Casey Kasem aired on radio from July 4, 1970 until August 6, 1988. This recording is a rebroadcast from internet radio. In this countdown: Casey says "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" by The Average White Band (at number 39) is a ballad. Not to be outdone, the ABOVE Average White Band will soon issue a remake of the White Album with guest vocals by Betty White and a few musicians from White Snake. A listener wants to know, "What artist in chart history has had the most Top 10 records?" Casey says a good guess would be Elvis or the Beatles, good, but not right, because that record belongs to an artist who first hit the charts back in 1940. Tag team time: In this corner, the one and only, the original, Boxer and his team-mate weighing in with some heavy poetry (Man!) Paul Simon & Phoebe Snow with "Gone At Last" (at number 26). And in this other corner (next in the countdown anyway), is Neil "Bad Blood" Sedaka, and the Madman from Across the Water, Elton John (at number 25). Casey reports The Richie Family is a 44 member group that is on the chart with the second oldest remake in history, "Brazil" at number 23. Cuban singer-songwriter-band leader Xavier Cugat took his version to number 2 way back in 1943 (yes, there is a RocketMan copy as an extra, but don't scratch it up; I want it back). There is an artist in the countdown whose first release 19 years earlier was issued under his own label, Universe Records. Unfortunately there was already a Universe Records, so he and three friends had to put pen to 45 and change "Universe" to LUniverse" twenty thousand times. "Mr. Jaws" by Dickie Goodman is at number 14. Casey says Elvis managed to stay in Billboard's Top 10 for 52 weeks, and if not for the one week he fell out of the Top 10, he could have added another 24 weeks onto that 52. Casey calls it "the safest record in chart history." Casey says the most popular question he gets is, "What is the biggest hit so far this year?" He responds, first you have to define "biggest hit." Then he lists the records with most weeks at number 1, most weeks in the Top 10, most weeks in the Top 40, and most weeks in the Hot 100 so far in 1975. 40: Lyin' Eyes - The Eagles 39: If I Ever Lose This Heaven - The Average White Band 38: I Only Have Eyes For You - Art Garfunkel 37: I Got Stoned And I Missed It - Jim Stafford 36: Solitaire - The Carpenters 35: What A Diff'rence A Day Makes - Esther Phillips 34: You're All I Need To Get By - Tony Orlando & Dawn 33: Do It Any Way You Wanna - Peoples Choise 32: Theme From "Jaws" - John Williams 31: Carolina In The Pines - Michael Murphy 30: Who Loves You - The Four Seasons 29: Lady Blue - Leon Russell 28: Get Down Tonight - K.C. & The Sunshine Band 27: Miracles - Jefferson Starship 26: Gone At Last - Paul Simon & Phoebe Snow 25: Bad Blood - Neil Sedaka 24: Rocky - Austin Roberts 23: Brazil - The Richie Family 22: The Proud One - The Osmonds 21: How Long (Betcha' Got A Chick On The Side) - The Pointer Sisters 20: Daisy Jane - America 19: Fallin' In Love - Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds 18: They Just Can't Stop It (The Games People Play) - The Spinners 17: It Only Takes A Minute - Tavares 16: Feelings - Morris Alpert 15: I Believe There's Nothing Stronger Than Our Love - Paul Anka & Odia Coates 14: Mr. Jaws - Dickie Goodman 13: That's The Way Of The World - Earth, Wind & Fire 12: Dance With Me - Orleans 11: Ain't No Way To Treat A Lady - Helen Reddy 10: Feel Like Makin' Love - Bad Company 9: Ballroom Blitz - Sweet 8: Wasted Days And Wasted Nights - Freddy Fender 7: At Seventeen - Janis Ian 6: Could It Be Magic - Barry Manilow 5: Run Joey Run - David Geddes 4: Fight The Power Pt. 1 - The Isley Brothers 3: Rhinestone Cowboy - Glen Campbell 2: Fame - David Bowie 1: I'm Sorry - John Denver Related Torrents
