TRAMA:

Ambientato tra il 1974 e il 1978, il film tratta le vicende dell'operazione Abscam (dalla fusione delle parole arab e scam) che è il vero nome di un'operazione dell'FBI che incastrò alcuni membri del congresso con l'aiuto di una coppia di noti truffatori. Il bureau, infatti, si avvale dell'aiuto dei truffatori Irving Rosenfeld e Sydney Prosser, che per anni avevano guadagnato promettendo a persone disperate cifre grosse in cambio di cifre piccole senza mai corrispondere nulla (una sorta di Scam d'antàn). I due si trovano, loro malgrado, a lavorare a fianco dell'agente federale Richie DiMaso per incastrare una serie di politici e mafiosi, tra cui Carmine Polito, l'imprevedibile sindaco della povera città di Camden, in New Jersey. Tra tradimenti e colpi di scena, a rovinare la festa è la devastante e (apparentemente) innocua presenza della vera moglie (con cui condivide anche un figlio) di Irving, Rosalyn, viziata casalinga fonte di molti guai.

STORYLINE:

A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that's as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving's unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.
