Maarten (Paul de Leeuw) en Molly (Karina Smulders) hebben een hele bijzondere band met elkaar. Sinds het overlijden van hun ouders is Maarten verantwoordelijk voor de opvoeding van zijn kleine zusje. Gesteund door zijn beste vriendin Reina (Lineke Rijxman) heeft hij Molly groot gebracht tot een zelfverzekerde, jonge vrouw. Wél heeft Maarten zichzelf hiervoor compleet weggecijferd. Als Molly plotseling aankondigt dat ze gaat samenwonen, wordt hij geconfronteerd met het zogenaamde 'lege-nest syndroom'. Zowel Maarten als Molly hebben de grootste moeite om te wennen aan hun nieuwe levensfase en raken steeds verder van elkaar verwijderd. Maar dan slaat het noodlot toe en wordt Molly ziek. Ze worden gedwongen om rigoureuze keuzes te maken.

Martin (Paul McCartney) and Molly (Karina Smulders) have a very special bond with each other. Since the death of their parents, Martin is responsible for the education of his little sister. Backed by his best friend, Reina (Lineke Rijxman) he brought Molly into a confident young woman. Martin does have set themselves completely weggecijferd. When Molly suddenly announces that she is together, he is confronted with the so-called "empty nest syndrome '. Both Martin and Molly have the greatest difficulty to adjust to their new life and are becoming further and further apart. But then disaster strikes and Molly is sick. They are forced to rigorous choices.
