Afternoon Play: It's Better with Animals 31-07-2008
By Mike Walker. A mysterious old shopkeeper in one of New York's grandest buildings purveys furs and memories. His vintage garments seem to have the power to change relationships and release emotion. Based on three short stories: The Red Fox Fur Coat by Teolinda Gersao, Blue Waltz with Coyotes by Jean Dixon and Pie Dance by Molly Gee. From The Radio Times The three short stories in this portmanteau play are interlinked by the mysterious owner of a New York fur shop. It's a format that's proved successful for horror films and this is a sublime example of radio that chills, be it the woman who finds she's taking on the ferocious qualities of the foxes that became her coat or the young girl who dresses her baby brother in a stole and offers him up to the coyotes. True to the portmanteau genre, the creepiest presence is that of the storyteller, in this case the shopkeeper. Jane Anderson Shopkeeper/Konrad ...............................
