BIOGRAPHY



In tune with the world, Y?? Lassina Coulibaly???s compositions demonstrate

a surprising timeliness.

A creator above everything else, curious and attentive to the most

contemporary musical forms, Y?? Lassina has been reinventing African

music through his encounters with western musicians and his audacious

artistic experiments.



His compositions are like bridges spanning the divide, reaching out to

others, toward the future.



His quest is to create a music that best reflects the melodies of

traditional West African instruments.



In his musical explorations Y?? Lassina regularly returns to Africa to

work with some of the best instrumentalists of Mali and Burkina-Faso.

He has also collaborated with professional Mandingo musicians in Europe.



The enthusiasm with which these talented musicians have invested themselves

in their work has helped Y?? Lassina to produce a string of exciting concerts

and albums : five records distributed by Universal Melody, World Music, Five

Planets, as well as honors such as ?? Le Grand Ma??tre ???hats off??? award from

the Charles Cros Academy.



Y?? Lassina is currently pursuing his career in Europe and continues his

musical and choreographic research as composer and artistic director of

the YAN KADI FADO group where he has been a djemb?? soloist since 1985.
