Parijs, 1910. Emile, een bescheiden filmoperateur, en Raoul, een kleurrijk uitvinder gaan op jacht naar een monster dat de bevolking van Parijs terroriseert. Ze bundelen de krachten met Lucille, de grootmoedige cabaretster, een excentrieke wetenschapper en diens heetgebakerde aap om het monster, dat uiteindelijk een heel erg grote maar ongevaarlijke vlo blijkt te zijn, te redden van de meedogenloos ambitieuze politiechef van de stad.
