Sugli studi e le teorie di Freud e Jung, i due padri della psicoanalisi, sono scorsi fiumi e fiumi di inchiostro negli ultimi cento anni. Lavori complessi, interessanti ma probabilmente non

alla portata di tutti. Eppure vale sempre la pena di scavare un po' più a fondo, alla ricerca non solo dell'origine di queste teorie, ma anche del background che le ha favorite e fatte

nascere. Chi erano e come vivevano questi due grandi studiosi e pensatori? E, in generale, quanto la vita e l'esperienza personale ne hanno dettato gli studi e, in seguito, gli

insegnamenti?
Questa curiosità intellettuale ha fatto nascere ulteriori ricerche ed opere, anche in prosa e cinematografiche, sulle loro vite, più o meno approfondite e/o adatte all'uomo comune piuttosto

che allo studioso. Ricordiamo ad esempio Prendimi l'anima di Roberto Faenza, del 2002, o Un metodo molto pericoloso: la storia di Jung, Freud e Sabina Spielrein di John Kerr, libro che ha

poi ispirato una pièce teatrale e il qui recensito film diretto dal 'mastro indagatore' David Cronenberg, da sempre interessato alle tematiche che scandagliano le pulsioni dell'animo umano.

Il film, ambientato tra Zurigo e Vienna alla vigilia della prima guerra mondiale, si basa sui rapporti turbolenti tra lo psichiatra Carl Gustav Jung, il suo mentore Sigmund Freud, il loro

collega Otto Gross[1] e Sabina Spielrein, una donna bella e tormentata, che si frappone tra loro.
Zurigo, 1904. Lo psichiatra ventinovenne Carl Gustav Jung è all’inizio della sua carriera, e vive con sua moglie Emma, incinta, presso l’ospedale Burghölzli. Ispirandosi al lavoro di

Sigmund Freud, Jung decide di tentare sulla paziente diciottenne Sabina Spielrein il trattamento sperimentale di Freud noto come psicanalisi o “terapia delle parole”.........



Suffering from hysteria, Sabina Spielrein is hospitalized under the care of Dr. Carl Jung who has begun using Dr. Sigmund Freud's talking cure with some of his patients. Spielrain's

psychological problems are deeply rooted in her childhood and violent father. She is highly intelligent however and hopes to be a doctor, eventually becoming a psychiatrist in her own

right. The married Jung and Spielrein eventually become lovers. Jung and Freud develop an almost father-son relationship with Freud seeing the young Jung as his likely successor as the

standard-bearer of his beliefs..............
