36 Ghante is a 1974 Hindi movie directed by Raj Tilak. The film stars Raaj Kumar, Mala Sinha, Sunil Dutt, Vijay Arora, Ranjeet, Danny Denzongpa, Parveen Babi, Iftekhar and Deven Verma. The films music is by Sapan Chakraborty.



Film is a remake of the American film The Desperate Hours, which was in turn based on the novel by Joseph Hayes.



The film starts when three hardcore criminals escape from the jail by overpowering the guards and snatching their guns. Once out in the street, they first snatch a car from a man passing that way, and then snatch clothes from three other passers-by, and get themselves dressed in the same. Then they forcibly enter into a newspaper editor’s house, taking him and his family into hostage.

Plot:

Three jailed convicts Himmat (Sunil Dutt), his brother Ajit (Ranjeet), and Dilawar Khan (Danny Denzongpa) break out of prison and take over the household of Editor Ashok Rai (Raaj Kumar). Held hostage against their will are Ashok Rai, his wife Deepa Rai (Mala Sinha), son, Rajoo (Master Alankar) and gorgeous sister Naina (Parveen Babi). The convicts will continue to hold the family hostage until their associate, Kamini (Sonia Sahni) contacts them in person. The police investigation into their escape is being coordinated by Inspector R.D. Wadekar (Ramesh Deo), who have absolutely no clue of the whereabouts of the convicts.
