1914 - Day By Day

In this series of short (generally less than 5 minutes) programmes, the historian Margaret MacMillan traces the events from the assassination of the Arhduke Ferdinand in Sarajevo, to the outbreak of the war. In some ways, it appears that the war came from "nowhere", especially from the British standpoint, British & German navies still making courtesy calls in each others' ports well into July and Britain almost remaining a bystander as Europe moved to war.

A fascinating series.
