Due modesti attori comici Tom e Jerry vengono ricercati dalla Polizia negli Stati Uniti, per avere sparato, più o meno incidentalmente, a un divo americano, che li aveva scritturati con un contratto scritto su un tovagliolo. La caccia è aperta: ai due attori, impauriti e ormai affratellati dal guaio comune, non resta che vestire abiti femminili, star sempre in viaggio, passando da un motel ad un ristorante e sottostando agli incontri e scontri più svariati, pur di sfuggire agli sceriffi. Due ragazze, Barbara e Conchita, che fanno l'autostop in cerca di lavoro, accompagnano i due per un certo tempo e Barbara piace al più anziano Tom, il quale, purtroppo, è assillato dall'affetto e dalle premure di Frank Santamaria, un vecchio ricco e strambo. I due attori trascorrono alcuni giorni nella villa di costui e poi, stanchi di rischi, equivoci e paure, decidono di consegnarsi. Durante la ricostruzione della sparatoria in cui il divo è rimasto ferito, goffi ed esagitati come sono, rischiano di compiere una vera strage di funzionari e poliziotti. Da qui una seconda fuga. Dieci anni più tardi e dopo una lunga separazione, Jerry, che ha messo su un modesto locale si incontra con Tom, che sposatosi con Santamaria, ormai deceduto, vive con Barbara, che gli ha dato ben cinque figli. Tom appare all'amico, ancora in gramaglie, ma sempre in vesti femminili, da "vedova" fedele al ricordo di quello strambo Santamaria, che gli ha lasciato una villa e molti dollari.



Two modest comedians Tom and Jerry are searched by the police in the United States, to get fired, more or less incidentally, to an American star, who had signed to a contract written on a napkin.
